April 25, 2009------OMEA STATE CHOIR RESULTS was held on April 25 at Gahanna West Middle School. Congratulations to all students who accepted this challenge and honor !!!!! Only about 10% HS Choral groups involved in OMEA achieve this huge accomplishment.

We are SO PROUD of our students and the performances that they gave at District Contest at Zanesville! As you can see, every single judge gave every single Big Walnut performing group the highest rating possible!
In earning overall Superior Ratings (I), every Big Walnut Band and Choir qualified to perform at OMEA State Finals! Every student in our contest groups gets to perform at State Finals....a rare accomplishment for ANY school!!!!
We are very proud of how our students conducted themselves at Zanesville, as well as their performances.
Thank you to all of the parents who went to Zanesville to support our student musicians. It is always nice to see friendly faces in the audiences. Thank you to Jim Coffield for driving the equipment bus, and to all of the parents who chaperoned, assisted with moving equipment, etc.

**WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! March 18th was a major milestone in the BWHS Music Department History. Close to 200 hundreds students accepted the challenge back in January to begin the quest to "perfect" 3 music compositions and the ability to sight-read a piece of music to performance quality only by looking at it for about 4 minutes. 4 of our performing groups achieved this challenge on March 18th and have qualified for State Competition. The ratings are based on a 5 point system with I being reserved for "a truly outstanding performance that exemplifies a truly musical expression: The breakdowns of rating are as follows:
